Why Meal Plans Don’t Work
When most clients start with me, they are expecting a meal plan to get them going. The truth is that meal plans are ineffective and don't last long. Instead of coaching someone to be accountable to a plan I made for them, I empower them instead to create lasting habits so that they can make permanent lifestyle changes. It's not about do as I say, but what you feel is in the best interest of yourself long-term.
Honestly, most people don't respond well to being ordered around. What they do respond to is identifying and choosing a better route that works for them. When clients feel empowered, they tend to make better choices and adhere to small positive changes over time. For example, let's say you get a Cinnamon Roll Frappuccino, which is basically a dessert, from the Starbucks every morning. The first step would be to replace it with something healthier. How about a Grande Cappuccino with Almond Milk? Most plans would have you ditch your favorites all together, which is ineffective and causes rebounding. My coaching method guides clients to make better choices over time. This approach has the highest success rate. The only problem I've seen with my way of coaching is that people are impatient.
